Estes Mercury Redstone

Built April 02, this bird has yet to fly, a very nice looking model, but not the easiest to build. Semi scale model of NASA's Mercury Redstone Liberty Bell 7 rocket.

May 02, well we took the chance and put this bird up in the air on a C6-5. A great flight, and recovery was excellent.

This bird was slightly modified by placing an X with two toothpicks in the center of the coupler tube. I had read several reports that this thing would fly unstable if the wadding and chute were allowed to go to the bottom of the rocket at take off. This in turn blocks the wadding and chute from going any further down the body tube.  1st flight worked out great with this setup.

***August 2003***

This has become more of a display now than an active flier, I just like the way it looks I guess hanging from the ceiling.

Built 4-8-02

Diameter 1.6", Length 23.5", and Weight 3.0 oz. Parachute recovery. 18mm motors
